Inhalt:

Sam Cooper (Van Heflin) ist auf eine fette Bonanza gestoßen. Doch er braucht Hilfe, um das Gold abzutransportieren. Aber wem trauen? Er heuert seinen Ziehsohn Manolo Sanchez (George Hilton) an, der wiederum den zwielichtigen "Blonden" (Klaus Kinski) ins Team holt. Das passt dem alten Sam gar nicht, und so nimmt er noch seinen alten Kriegskameraden Mason (Gilbert Roland) mit, der allerdings noch mit ihm ein Hühnchen zu rupfen hat. Jede Menge Zündstoff im Team also. Und am Ende der entbehrungsreichen Goldsuche bewahrheitet sich Sams bittere Erkenntnis: "Wenn Du reich bist, dann ist Dein Leben keinen Cent mehr wert."

Die Kritik des Gunslingers:

Atmosphärisch dichter Italo mit klasse Bildern (Giuseppe Gatti). Giorgio Capitani ("George Holloway") inszenierte dieses Stück über Freundschaft, Hass und Moral 1967. Kinski gibt eine Kostprobe seiner stillen Gefährlichkeit, und Charmeur Jorge Hill ("George Hilton") ist ein böser Junge. Carlo Rusticelli steuerte den klassischen Sixties-Orchesterscore bei.
